Do not miss it

The beautiful Cistercian abbey dating from the twelfth century, otherwise called Monastery of Alcobaça or Royal Abbey of Santa Maria, this masterpiece was founded by the Order of Cister. It is now listed at UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

The Monks Park / Parque dos Monges

The Parc dos Monges is a medieval theme park located not far from Monastery.

On the program: entertainment, shows, canoeing, hiking, archery, zipline, zoo ... Ideal for a day with the family.

Wine museum / Museu do Vinho

In this museum you will go to discover the oenological heritage of the region.

In the program ancient wines, vats, presses, pearls are to discover. You will know everything about its history and its confection.

Raul da Bernarda museum / Museu Raul da Bernada

Visit the oldest ceramics factory in Alcobaça. Discover Portuguese folklore with unique pieces dating back to the 20th century. A souvenir shop is available on site.

Opening hours: Open Wednesday to Friday from 10h to 13h and from 14h to 18h. Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 14h to 18h.

The Monographic Museum of Barrio / Museu Monografico do Barrio

This museum displays the archaeological remains found in the Roman excavations of the Villa Romana Parreitas, located in the hills of Bárrio

The monastery / Mosteiro

This building was erected under the order of the first king of Portugal, Alfonso I, following the conquest of Santarém.
To mark this historic victory, the building was dedicated to the Cistercian order. A must in the city !

The castle / Castelo

Built on a hill about 70 meters high, the ruins of the Alcobaça Castle are part of an old medieval castle of Romanesque and Gothic style. Dominating the northwest of the village, it offers a beautiful view of the city, the monastery and the hills. It has been classified as a public interest property since September 12, 1978.

In century XIX the castle was considered without strategic or defensive function, and left abandoned. In century XX, already very degraded, it served as water cistern for the population. Then a little later, its access was improved and one of the main walls was rebuilt.

Vineyard Quinta dos Capuchos

The vineyard contains authentic wines produced between the tradition of manual harvesting and new technology. The grapes are harvested by hand, transported in small containers and then brought to the cellars.
12 hectares of Touriga Nacional red grape varieties, Castelao, Syrah, Tinta Roriz and Cabernet Sauvignon and Arinto, Verdelho, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay white varieties representing 6 hectares.

You will find Quinta dos Capuchos wines, limited editions and new wines. As well as regional products such as: Alcobaça liqueurs, jams, cheeses, olive oil, salt, champagne, sparkling wine, canned fish etc.
